We’ve lamented the plight of gay farmers on our blog before, and it would seem kykNET has taken heed – the first-ever gay farmer to be featured on Boer Soek ‘n Vrou was introduced along with nine other eligible farmers during a broadcast on Sunday, 12 May.

Boer Damian is a 37-year-old cattle and sheep farmer who is looking for a man who understands the challenges of being a farmer and would like to build a life with him and his Ngunis on his farm in the Bapsfontein district in Gauteng.

Damian loves the outdoors and his ideal date would be just him and someone special, in front of a crackling fireplace somewhere small and quiet. He describes himself as a comfortable guy with a love for music (he plays the piano himself) and good friends.

Speaking about previous relationships, Damian says the small things matter.

“To wake up every day and decide: today I will love you and give the best I can for us. We often forget to see the small things, instead of appreciating them, and showing that we appreciate them.”

Boer Soek ’n Vrou’s announcement has already caused a stir on their Facebook page, with many loyal viewers vowing to stop watching the show, but there has also been a wave of support for kykNET’s decision to feature a gay farmer in the show’s 12th season, with some calling it “gutsy”.

10 farmers were introduced on Sunday, and entries for Boer Soek ’n Vrou are now officially open. Only five farmers will ultimately be featured in season 12 when the show airs later this year, based on the amount of letters a particular farmer receives. To help Damian make the final cut, we urge our audience to take the bull by the horns and write to him.

If you are looking for love, you’ll have to make hay while the sun shines, as entries for this season close on 31 May. To find out how to enter and write to Boer Damian, click here, and click here to learn more about this hunky farmer.
