Bloom, written by Kevin Panetta and illustrated by Savanna Ganucheau isn’t your run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter YA novel. For one, this book is a graphic novel that largely centres around baking – and if that combination doesn’t already have you wanting to sink your teeth into it, you must have a very specific taste when it comes to novels for young adults.

Here’s the gist of the story: Ari works at his dad’s struggling bakery, but has high ambitions of moving to the city with his band. But while interviewing new candidates, Ari meets Hector, whose love for baking and easy-going nature intrigues Ari.

This book, with its stunning illustrations, has only just been released, but we’ll be discussing it as a part of the GaySA Radio Book Club on 12 February. Listen to the live stream of our discussion during Rainbow Talk between 12:00 and 15:00.

The book is available on Amazon, but if you’re looking for a little hors d’oeuvre, scroll down to see a few of the beautiful illustrations.
