Ruan Spencer joined the Gay SA Radio team as a volunteer for “Back to the 80’s” and is now full time part of this amazing team as the Administration Assistant.
Ruan the eldest son of 2 boys, born and raised in Pretoria in the late 80’s.
After he matriculated from Hoërskool Oos-Moot in Waverley, Pretoria, he wanted to study Dramatic Arts but ended up studying B.Ed. at AROS. His road took him on different paths and eventually ended up at Gay SA Radio.
Ruan is an openly gay male that burst through his closet doors in 2007. Since then, his life was a rollercoaster ride, but he believes everything in life is a learning curve, even when he lost his dearest mother in 2014. He is very straight forward and that’s about where “straight” ends with him. People sometimes consider him an utter bitch and funny enough he wears his given title proudly. People like his mother, Oprah Winfrey, Nelson Mandela, RuPaul Charles, Cher, Lady Gaga and a long list of people have influenced his life for the better.
Red wine and Tequila are his weakness. He loves to relax, watch a movie or listen to music, or just spending time with his friends just sitting under the stars and talking for hours. Ruanis an Aquarian and his investigative logical mind finds that people are the most interesting species on earth. Many of his art and poems come from finding inspiration in watching people and nature. And what is bad for his heart, is good for his art.
His last thought is: Always leave your footprints everywhere you go, you never know whose life you’re touching. So, go big or go home and make your dreams a reality! Never give up on yourself, because if you can’t love yourself – how you gonna love someone else…?
