The Longest Date sees 16 singles being paired up on the show, to work together in challenging, extreme, and sometimes gruelling activities, with a lucky few finding love along the way.

Activities are not for the faint at heart and range from abseiling down a ravine crevice to climbing up nature’s own treadmill; a gushing waterfall. Amongst the teams are gay singles Joedy Ramjith and Ruan Scheepers.  Joedy, a local Johannesburg resident from Kempton Park, enlisted for the show in search of a new adventure both in life and in love. Joedy (33), is a true believer in following your heart, and has left a career in Aeronautical Engineering and academic accomplishments (Masters in Industrial Engineering), to follow his passion in the Baking and Confectionary industry (owner of Deziner Cake Creators), emphasizing that happiness and self-worth are a priority for him.

Joedy Ramjith, one of the contestants on The Longest Date

Initially Joedy and Ruan seemed an odd pair with little chemistry between them, however, with great teamwork and communication, their first challenge up the waterfall rock face saw them victorious as the winning couple! This, Joedy believes, was a great opportunity to showcase that being gay didn’t mean they were to be underestimated. The pair faced their next challenge with good comradery and strategy, as they descended a ravine cliff abseiling, followed by a paddle on an unstable raft, down the Sabie River to the finish post.  The two once again were the leading team, and winners of the first prize on the show; a massage for two – a well-deserved reward for the physically demanding challenges! With each new challenge faced, we see the couple connect more and grow closer. Love on the cards? Time will tell, and Joedy is open to possibilities.

For Joedy, being part of the show has been an integral part of his life journey, where he has grown and achieved a proud self-image and self-acceptance. He is truly grateful to have had this opportunity and hopes to inspire other gay individuals to be happy within themselves, and to make clear the notion that love given and love received is the same for all humans and all couples.
